The military police in the state of Paraná, southern Brazil, announced that 11 convicts escaped from Bato Branco prison through a tunnel dug underground, noting that 5 of them were arrested at a later time.
The local "Globo" agency stated, "11 inmates escaped from Batu Branco State Prison, southwest of Paraná, by digging a tunnel leading outside the prison, and some of them were arrested by surveillance cameras."
According to the military police spokesman, "5 fugitives were arrested," while the security authorities called on citizens to report suspicious persons wearing dirty clothes.
The police believe that the escaped prisoners had partners waiting for them outside, and a partner has also been identified inside the prison, confirming that the investigation is still ongoing.
