On the authority of Abu Najeeh al-'Irbaad ibn Saariyah (radi allahu anhu) who said:The Messenger of Allah (s) gave us a sermon which brought fear to our hearts and tears to our eyes. So we said: O Messenger of Allah, it is as though this is a farewell sermon, so counsel us.He said: I counsel you to have Taqwa (fear) of Allah, and to give absolute obedience, even if a slave were to become your leader. Verily, he among you who lives long will see great controversy, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the Khulafaa' ar-Raashideen (the Rightly Guided Caliphs). Cling to it stubbornly. Beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for every newly invented matter is a bid'ah (innovation) and every bid'ah (innovation) is a going astray. It was related by Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi, who said that it was a Hasan (fair) and Sahih (sound) hadith.Hadith of the Week | Assunnah Primary SchoolThe Hadith of the Week initiative was introduced at the beginning of 2011.
